Our Story
Cooper Mental Health Counseling was developed by its founder Dr. Marty Cooper. There are several principles that guide our work. We believe that in order to help you we need to understand your concern from your perspective. We believe that you can feel better. Our focus is on your whole life and by maintaining this focus you have the potential to radically change your life. Although we recognize that therapy may be difficult at times, we believe that you have the possibility of finding something awesome on the other side. We will work tirelessly with you to help you develop a road map that may guide you for years beyond your work with us.
Meet the Team
I am so proud of the team we have built and I hope you will come to appreciate them as much as I do. These individuals were chosen because they bring something special not only to the practice but the practice of counseling. Although you would have an awesome therapist with any of these team members, I encourage you to read what they have to say and let this guide your selection.

Founder& Licensed PsychologistMy trauma informed and multicultural focus in treatment is understanding you as a whole person. I believe this includes many areas including intimate relationships, family, friends, work, spirituality, as well as many others. We work together to understand your concern and remove some of the barriers that are preventing you from flourishing. Our work will help you understand what has led to your current circumstances, what changes are possible, and will closely monitor your progress toward your goals.
In addition to my generalized training, I have specific training in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues, trauma, domestic violence, psychosis, older adults, and substance use. Currently, I am an Assistant Professor in the graduate mental health counseling program at SUNY Old Westbury.

Choosing to begin your therapy journey can be daunting. I understand how much courage and strength it takes to be vulnerable. As a student therapist I aim to create a warm, empathetic, safe, non-judgmental space for my clients to grow, heal, and be their most authentic selves. I believe creating a strong therapeutic relationship is fundamental and necessary for therapy to be beneficial.
First and foremost I utilize a collaborative, person-centered approach as I view each client as an expert of their own lives. My previous experience consists of working as a crisis counselor where I helped individuals in crisis feel heard, develop coping mechanisms, and create safety plans.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Washington and am currently working on my Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness from New York University.

As a dedicated professional, I am passionate about supporting individuals on their unique paths toward emotional well-being and personal growth. I prioritize creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential. Using a person-centered approach, I focus on active listening and asking open-ended questions to foster a collaborative, strengths-based therapeutic environment. My goal is to ensure each client receives personalized care that is attuned to their specific needs and aspirations.
Currently pursuing a master’s degree in Mental Health and Wellness Counseling at New York University, I bring experience working with youth, adolescents, families, and athletes. These experiences have deepened my ability to support individuals in building resilience, navigating challenges, and developing positive coping strategies. I am also committed to integrating cross-cultural considerations into my practice, ensuring my approach is culturally sensitive and respectful of each client’s unique background and experiences.
